Wednesday Rants: November 2014

Greetings Fellow Readers! Welcome to another round of random ranting. So the time has finally come to announce that Special Project I have been talking about for the past couple of months. Let us begin.

PROJECT SPLATTER

So for those who have been following me the past couple of months, I have been playtesting my board game 'Spltterbomb'TM that I debuted at IGDA Game Demo Night in Hoboken, NJ and worked on at NYC-Playtest group. Well I have been making plans to expand on the game in the hopes of getting 'Splatterbomb'TM published once the prototype is fully playtested and the rules and game mechanics are ironed out. So what are the plans of Project Splatter? Well all of this was due to one little thing that I arranged which I will start with in the rundown of what involves Project Splatter.

[Peanut Butter Jelly (SplatterbombTM Theme)]

DISCLAIMER: Very sorry for the technical difficulties, apparently Blogspot has 100MB limit and the sample clip is over 400MB)

UPDATE: A little Movie Maker magic and BAM, sample clip of the 'Peanut Butter Jelly'. Enjoy.

This is what is making Project Splatter possible. Over the Summer, after having demonstrated 'Splatterbomb'TM at IGDA Game Demo Night, I had an idea for a song that popped into my head after visiting Peanut Butter & Co. in New York City. During the Game Demo Night I met a musician by the name of Alyssa Menes (portfolio.acmenesmusic.com), who does video game music and theme songs for YouTube Channels. Her link is on the sidebar "External Link Section". I wanted a theme song for my 'Prototype Presentation' of 'Splatterbomb'TM, so we collaborated and made this. So the plan is that Project Splatter is going to revolve around this theme song.

The song itself will be on sale at Bandcamp on Friday December 5th, 2014. Our Bandcamp Page is still under development, but the address is studiocoqui.bandcamp.com.

So make sure to pick yourself up a copy of Peanut Butter Jelly (SplatterbombTM Theme).

[Splatterbomb Short Stories on Kindle]

Next there will be Short Stories written on the world of 'Splatterbomb'TM. The plot will be focusing on the competition and base rules of the game. I have the plot written out in the game, so I will be building from there. I had thought about Fictionaut, but I feel Kindle is more stronger providing support in the games development, including building prototypes and purchasing game pieces with the Kindle revenue. I have yet to decide how many Shorts I will make available in one book, but I will make sure there is enough to justify a purchase. I will also put in the Kindle programs like Shell, so I can provide discounts from time to time.

[Splatterbomb Audio Books on iTunes or Audible]

With the Kindle comes the Audiobooks. I will be looking to set up Audiobooks of the 'Splatterbomb'TM Shorts Stories. Again just like Kindle, I don't how much I am going to put into one package, but it is decision that will probably be last second. Again with iTune and/or Audible, the revenue can help in the games development process. I am forgoing YouTube because from I am understanding, Audible and iTunes have exclusivity clauses and I don;t want to post an Audio Reading video if it causes me to lose my membership with both.

[Some Transparency]

I have thought of many avenues to go with this project the past 48 hours. One was using Patreon in conjunction with Fictionaut and Youtube, but like I have said before, there is something about Patreon that is enticing, but it makes me hesitant to jump into. It has that "Too good to be true" vibe, and one thing I have learned is that there is no such thing as easy money. I have seen people not use Patreon and achieve a level of excellence on the internet which proves that it can be done as long as one perseveres. In every sense of the word, being that I can write a story and create an audiobook as my Youtube have shown, I have come to the conclusion that I do not need Patreon to generate revenue.

Also, some events have recognized Amazon Kindle as professional level to attend their events and that may include iTunes/Audible. So I would to be able to upkeep that in order to attend those event and make networks connections. It also helps me with providing a little credibility amongst top professional companies.

There are plenty of plans for me to attain revenue, like merchandising, i.e. 'Splatterbomb'TM T-Shirts, comic books (Read Below), and buttons, which again can be possible if 'Peanut Butter Jelly (SplatterbombTM Theme)', SplatterbombTM Kindle Publishing and Audiobooks sell well. All this on top of getting the official 'Splatterbomb'TM board game in the hands of a publisher.

So I will be setting up schedule next month during 'NEWS and NOTES' regarding 'Splatterbomb'TM so stay tuned.

Now for other NOTES.

[Scheduling Pattern]

'Arcana Magi' Universe is underway. I thank all the readers who turned out for the 5th Anniversary Short Stories. I am glad that many of you enjoyed seeing your favorite characters in one setting. Due to Project Splatter the scheduling pattern is going to lengthen the 5th Season, which I hope makes some of you happy. So the scheduling pattern is going to work like this.

-1st Monday of the month: 'NEWS and NOTES'
-2nd Friday of the month: 'Arcana Magi'
-3rd Wednesday of the Month: 'Wednesday Rants'
-3rd Friday of the Month: 'Splatterbomb' Event; If necessary.
-Last Friday of the Month: 'Arcana Magi'

The 1st week of the month will be 'NEWS and NOTES' but it will also serve as time off for me. So I can get my brain rested up, give myself some time to work on things not related to 'Arcana Magi', and most importantly rest.

[Comic Books]

That's right I am throwing my hat into the comic books ring. I had a very successful New York Comic Con walking with Comic Book Editors, writer, artists, and companies. I joined ComicsExperience.com to help improve my script writing, however my finances went against me and I had to leave after one month. Again, buying 'Peanut Butter Jelly (Splatterbomb Theme)' and my books will really help out here.

Anyway, I highly recommend all who are interested in creating Comic Books to check Comics Experience out. They are very good. They are a nice community. And they are very helpful in the development of writers, artist, letterers, which ever field you are interested in.

So what have I done so far, well I have adapted 'Arcana Magi Rush' into a comic book as part of the 5th Anniversary and I am currently seeking Comics Company to publish it. It is 3 Issues in length and very exciting. I also am writing 'The Unsung Heroes Shadow Watch'. It's a superhero team comic. I drew the team emblem and written some Short Story Scripts and Issue #1 of the series. So I am also seeking out a publisher on that front. I will also write a script for 'Splatterbomb' but that will be much later.

This is a very exciting venture I am stepping into and I am looking forward to bringing my stories toe Comics crowd. I will be honest, writing a script is very hard. Part of writing a Comic Script is writing in present tense, and when you have written as long as I have in the past tense, it is very difficult to adjust to, but I am adapting well and am having fun with the writing.

So that is all I have in mind. Thank you for listening to my rants. Stay tuned on my Twitter feed, Facbook Events page, and here for all the schedules on 'Arcana Magi' and 'Splatterbomb'. Next Week will be the return of our first heroines of 'Arcana Magi Universe' with 'Arcana Magi Zero c. 1', it will be a 5-chapter short novel. So join me then.

Again please make sure to visit Alyssa Menes site at portfolio.acmenesmusic.com. The link will be on sidebar.

So that's all for the ranting,

Until Next Time...

See ya.

Wednesday Rants: October 2014

Greetings Fellow Readers! Welcome to another round of ranting. I have some very sad news to announce amongst the good so let's start there because it is important.

[Prototype Presentations Delayed]

In light of events that happened at New York Comic Con, I am shifting writing priorities right now and something has to give. What happened at the convention is that I have made exchanges of business cards and information from writing publishers. As a result, I need to focus on writing more than ever at this moment. So since 'Prototype Presentations' is a YouTube video and is not a publishing issue, I am putting it aside in order to focus on new writings, which I will explain in the next segment.

I am still going to continue playtesting 'Splatterbomb' at NYC-Playtest next month and I will try to get a table at the IGDA Game Demo Night in Hoboken when the next session happens, but right now, Youtube videos are going to have to wait. The other reason this is okay is that I already have a tabletop game currently under review with a publisher, so as much I want to keep pushing forward with my games, it is not something of high priority when I need to really step up and climb the ladder of success. I apologize to any of you who were expecting the next 'Prototype Presentation', but Youtube does not give me publishing cred.

[New York Comic Con]

My time at the convention has been very good. It was fun. I got to speak to writers, editors and artists in the comic book industry. I learned that there was a script writing contest and so I submitted to it. So, I have decided to re-strategize my script writing approach. I am going to refocus from writing a large series to write 1-shot issues to use as submissions to comic book companies. I intend to adapt some of my Kindle published stories into comic books. I may even do one for 'Arcana Magi'. In the end, I want to expand my writing range amongst the media and not limit myself to just novels, short stories, or tabletop games.

[Arcana Magi 5th Anniversary]

Well we are 2 weeks away from the 5th season of 'Arcana Magi' and here I am to present you the complete list of 'Arcana Magi' titles for 2014-2015 Season. NOTE that this is not in release order.

Arcana Magi 5th Anniversary Short Story
Arcana Magi Memorial
Arcana Magi Pure
Arcana Magi: Return (Short Story)
Arcana Magi Bolt (Short Story)
Arcana Magi Zero

All four universes will be represented this year. Now again, because of my shift to writing comic book scripts, I will be taking the first week of each month off. Meaning, the season will run very long. This will also help with the 'NEWS and NOTES' scheduling to prevent any work landing on the as the 'NEW and NOTES'. So be ready for a nice long 'Arcana Magi' Season.

[Special Project]

It is pacing along fine. The Special Project is going through another draft. Please keep remember to keep your eye on twitter for when the project is complete.

[Final Thought]

I believe that is everything on my mind and I just know I am gonna snap my finger while you are reading this wishing I had not forget it. So thank you all for listening to my rants. Again, I apologize for delaying 'Prototype Presentations', but I do have a new avenue for my writings and the sooner I get started, the better my chances of success.

So I'll see you all for the 5th Anniversary in two weeks.

Until Next Time...

See ya.

Wednesday Rants: September 2014

Greetings Fellow Readers! Welcome to another round of Wednesday Ranting. Plenty of stuff to talk about today so let's begin. A very big rant at the end.

[IGDA Arcade and Game Demo Night]

I am sad to announce that I was not granted a table this month for 'The Jumpers'. The registration turnout was really high this time. The event has gotten bigger. However, I am in the short list for the next IGDA Arcade and Game Demo Night so I will have a chance at presenting 'The Jumpers'.

I will be attending this month as planned. Feel free to chat with me or play a game with me at the event.

[NYC-Playtest]

NYC-Playtest is always the first Saturday of the month. So that would mean the next event will be Saturday, October 4th. Keep on an on their calender here in their official website;

http://nycplaytest.com/

I'll post on Twitter when I make my RSVP to attend. I will be continuing to playtest 'Splatterbomb'. I believe the game is now at the point of being publishable.

[Special Project]

This is also nearing the end of completion. As soon as it is done and I finalize everything, I will make the announcement here, Twitter and Facebook. So stay tuned.

[Prototype Presentations]

I am going to make a new Prototype Presentation Video for 'Splatterbomb' next month after NYC-Playtest. Hopefully this will be the publishable version and not a draft, but either way, I intend to make a video for it.

[Arcana Magi 5th Season]

The 5th Anniversary is a little over a month away. I will announce the remaining titles in next months 'Wednesday Rants' that will cover the 5ht Season. I also plan to write a little something in the Fictionaut forums to celebrate this great milestone on the day of the Anniversary.

[Audio Reading/Patreon Posting]

Now, I would like to take a serious moment to talk to you about this. I have signed up, but I have not "Upgraded" to the status of posting videos. Honestly, I feel very hesitant about it. I want to focus on advertising via Youtube, but real life is not exactly running in my favor. For those of you who do not know what Patreon is here is the link;

http://www.patreon.com/

It's like Kickstarter, only instead of pooling in a single lump sum over a period of time, its like a monthly "Tip Jar". I have touch base with the people who run Patreon to understand how this works, and it is very enticing, but something about this that rubs me the wrong. Now maybe its just paranoia and its really nothing, but it something that I am really thinking over before I make any decisions.

Now for what my plan would be on Patreon. I would do both Written Postings and Audio Reading Videos of 'Beyond Logic'. 'Beyond Logic' would be exclusive to Patreon and no other work. My writing would be more Flash Fiction at minimum 500 words. I am taking inspiration from H.P. Lovecraft, whom wrote very short stories like 'What the Moon Brings'. That lasted 1 page and half in 'The Other Gods and More Unearthly Tales'. So I know I am not feeling a little cheap. Going Flash Fiction for written posts and Audio Readings will help me try to write with more frequency.

Aside from feeling nervous about Patreon, there is also another problem and that is 'Arcana Magi' Season 5. If I pull the trigger on this Patreon Project, something has to give because I have make these 'Beyond Logic' postings at least once a month. That means that 'Arcana Magi' postings on Fictionaut are going to be slow, the season will be longer than it should.

Now I just want to make this clear. Patreon is a last resort. I don't want to jump into it for the wrong reasons, and try and give the real world here outside the internet a chance to give me a break. I want to make that if I do go through Patreon, it is fair for all of you. That if you decide to support me via Patreon, it's worth your trouble and effort. But like I said, Patreon there is something about it that makes me hesitant and I have nothing to assure that this is the right thing for me to do, for my future and finances.

Thank you.

- The next 'NEWS and NOTES' will be Monday, October 6, 2014. Thank you for listening to my rants. Fall begins this weekend, let's get ready for some cold breeze.

Until Next Time...

See ya.

Wednesday Rants: August 2014

Greetings Fellow Readers! Welcome to another round of Wednesday Rants. I do have some things to talk about, so let's get on with the ranting.

[Special Project]

Right now, I have invested in a special project. I cannot get to full into details because this project is currently under development. I should expect to announce on the next rants when it is completed. Believe me, you will love what I engaged in. Just hum a melody as you wait for the next set of news.

[New York Comic Con]

I am sad to announce that I did not get picked up this year for an 1 Hour Autograph Booth. So I will not be getting a chance to sign autographs. My ticket to NYCC is secured. I will be attending all 4 days, Thurs - Sun, roaming halls as always. I will be looking to network and exchange business cards.

[Literary Agent]

I am currently looking for a Lit. Agent to represent my written works. The first one I am pitching is 'The Compilation of Prose and Thought: a Trainee's Perspective on Writing'. For those of you joining me and do not know. Last year I wrote segments here in this Blog called 'Thoughts on Writing', and I decided to make easier for people to read these thoughts of mine, I compiled them together and inserted some of my Sort Stories and other fictional writing as a showcase of my work and writing ability. So I am pitching this to Agents in the hopes of getting a House Publisher to put on bookshelves, while I continue to work on Dreamwalker Kumiko, my fantasy novel.

[Works on Fictionaut and Blog Links]

You might have noticed recently that I set some stories to private in Fictionaut and removed some links. This is in relation to the 'The Compilation of Prose and Thought: a Trainee's Perspective on Writing'. A couple of shorts were selected to be included in this book. So I had to ensure that there would be no publishing problem, however, the decision to remove the selected stories from Fictionaut is still on the table. This will most likely be an 11th hour decision and will not be warned in advance.

[Arcana Magi 5th Season]

So the 5th Year of 'Arcana Magi' is around the corner. I kicked it off early with 'Tales of Arcana Magi' currently available on Amazon Kindle. The list of stories that are going to be released on Fictionaut so far is as follows;

-Arcana Magi Memorial Vol. 5
-Arcana Magi Pure Vol. 5

There will be 3 more stories 1 for the Byakko Universe and a return to the Suzaku Universe. The final titles will be announced next month.

Finally the official start of Season 5 will be Thursday October 30, the first day 'Arcana Magi Zero' was posted on Fictionaut, I look forward to seeing you all then.

[Board Game Playtesting]

Keep your eyes out on Twitter for any upcoming announcements of future Playtests like IGDA New Jersey Game Demo Night or NYC Playtest. I have made some more board games and revisited others that I had been working on. Now I am taking them out to the field for thorough to improve and fine tune the games and rules. I do look forward to seing you all at these events.

So that is all I have on my mind. Thank you all for listening to my rants. Be sure to get your free copy of 'Shell' next Friday on Amazon Kindle.

Until Next Time...

See ya.

Wednesday Rants: July 2014 #1

Greetings Fellow Readers! Welcome to another round of random ranting. There are things that I am going to have to discuss, as I am sure you may have questions. So let us begin.

[Arcana Magi]

You may have noticed by now that I had released some stories from 'Arcana Magi' onto Amazon Kindle. Well there are a few reasons for this; 1) After having received a notice regarding 'Beyond Logic Vol.1' when I was updating the Amazon Kindle release with a book cover, I wanted to make sure that everything was okay regarding publishing, and it is. 2) Because of this event, I figured this was a good opportunity to try a little something for this upcoming Season... 5. That's right, 'Arcana Magi' will be 5 year old having debut on Fictionaut in 2009. 3) Therefore, since 'Arcana Magi Zero', the first in the series, is 5 Years Old, I decided to give it the Amazon Kindle release.

As for 'Arcana Magi Rush', I want it included in 'Compilation of Prose and Thought' for House Publishing because, I feel it is a strong story that exemplifies what I discussed regarding female characters. It is also an awesome story to get published with my other shorts since its giant robots versus dragons. Finally I feel it is a good representation of the entire 'Arcana Magi Universe' on a Publishing House scale.

There will be more on the 5th Anniversary as October nears.

[New York Comic Con]

It's that season again, New York Comic Con. (http://www.newyorkcomiccon.com/) So I got myself a Professional Badge for a second year in a row. I will be wandering the halls once again, but I have good news. I was able to register for a 1 Hour Autograph Session and it is under review. The results will occur next month. If accepted, I will be autographing copies of 'Tales From Arcana Magi' and 'The Impossible Man' Amazon book covers for free. I had thought about doing a panel, but I think this year may not be a good time. I want to take this one step at a time. Plus I don;t know what I would do aside from talking about the above 2 stories and Q&A. I want to get a little more stuff under my belt, like an actual publication from a house before tackling the Panels. So, I'll let you all know if I get a booth, and provide all the info needed to come see me and get a chance to meet me, finally.

[NJ Game Demo Night]

Thank you to all who had come by my table and played my board game Splatterbomb. Big thanks to Brian Chung for hosting the event and International game Developers Association for sponsoring it. Check out the sweet photos of all the awesome games and fans. https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10152507671090569.1073741831.141515290568&type=1

[Compilation of Prose and Thought]

This book that I have made features a compilation of my 'Thoughts on Writing' that are featured here in my Blogspot, but I also include a selection of Short Stories, many of which never been released, to showcase my writing abilities. This here is a list of what the shorts chosen for this work;

Days of Fate and Destiny
De x Maquina Chronicles
Beyond Logic - The Spectral Line
The Parody Writer and His Gluteus Maximus
Lorhavyn
Arcana Magi Rush
A World Onto Our Hands

A mixture of Science Fiction, Fantasy, Comedy and Poetry, written in many different ways. Hopefully, once I suceed in getting this published and into bookstore, everyone can enjoy a buffet of different tales and styles, and see what I bring to the table.

So that is all I have on my mind this month. Next week is 'Audio Readings: Feral' as well as Free 'Shell' Friday. Be sure to get your free copy, as always.

Until Next Time...

See ya.

Quick NOTES: July #1

Greetings Fellow Readers!

I have a bit of a Summer surprise publishing. 'Tales From Arcana Magi' is now up and running on Amazon Kindle. I will get into the details on the next 'Wednesday Rants' but rest assured, everything is fine. If you are in adding this to your Kindle Collection, just click on the sidebar link today.

- Also remember that Free 'Shell' Friday is tomorrow. Be sure to pick up your free copy of 'Shell' to add to your Amazon Kindle collection.

You all have a nice weekend. See you Wednesday.

Until next time...
