Wedneday Rants: April 2015 Edition

Greetings Fellow Readers! Welcome to the April Edition of Wednesday Rants. I got some extremely important news to talk about so let us begin.

[Posting my Stories on Fictionaut]

There are conversations going on between Fictionaut Members and the people in running the website. The conversation grew could in the Forum but is going in Facebook.

http://fictionaut.com/forums/general/threads/3368

There appears to be some decisions that could be made in the future, and chances are I may not agree with it. If I do not like the direction Fictionaut goes, I may walk and leave the site. That means I will also take all of my works on Fictionaut. If should I find myself leaving Fictionaut, I have no intention of looking for another website to post any of my stories on. I know there are many websites, even some decent ones that could cater to posting stories on the internet, but I really do not want to go through the whole process of re-posting 5 years worth of stories. This is NOT laziness, its that many things have happened since I joined Fictionaut from  pursuing Comic Book Companies to developing Tabletop Games, I do not have the energy to go through all that posting.

I don't know what I will do with all that work, maybe focus on turning some of them into Comic Books scripts like I did with 'Arcana Magi Rush', but it is still very very early right now with Fictionauts situation.

Nothing may even happen, but I felt that I should mention this now, right now, so that if any changes happen at Fictionaut occur and I make the choice to leave, that decision will not spring up on all of you all of sudden. You already know the situation. I hope I can stay on Fictionaut longer, this is a great pace.

[Arcana Magi]

'Arcana Magi Memorial Vol. 5-c.5' is coming to an end next week. I hope all of you enjoyed Azure's latest adventure. Next month on 'Arcana Magi's 5th Anniversary' will be 'Arcana Magi Pure Vol. 5'. I expect the 5th Anniversary season to end around June, Fictionaut notwithstanding. So please continue to enjoy the universe.

[Swap Off]

The game coming along fine. There isn't much to say at this time, but I do want to point out that my target audience is for families. I hope that I have accomplish that level. The characters I am using are family characters, mom, dad, children, grandparents, and so on. I did the artwork for the characters though I am unsure if they will be used in the final product. Swap Off is officially a card game for 2 - 4 Players. Protoyping will resume next month.

[Splatterbomb]

Rather than playtesing Splatterbomb™ this month, I decided to hold a roundtable discussion to get advice and help on the games direction and game mechanics. Thanks to NYC-Playtest.com, I have made decisions on where to focus the game at and its theme. Officially, I will be theming the game around Video Arcades. Here is an example via 'classicgamevideos' Channel on Youtube:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7mMJio2MO6w

I am targeting a 2-5 player, asymmetrical style, tactical game. The story and world building is set, I have the characters drawn out, and the artistic and aesthetics are leaning towards what you would see on an Arcade Machine. There are still some game mechanics that I need to test out before making any omissions, this will happen at Next Months NYC-Playtest on May 2.

[Free Spring Day]

Just a heads up this Friday April 17 is 'Free Spring Day'. 'Shell' on Kindle and Peanut Butter Jelly (Splatterbomb™ Theme) on Bandcamp will both be free for 24 hours. This is your chance to scoop both on a single day. Please enjoy.

Also be sure to check out Alyssa Menes Music Composer for 'Peanut Butter Jelly' at:

That's all I have on my mind for now.  Thank you all for listening to my rants.

Until Next Time...

See ya...

Wednesday Rants: March 2015 Edition

Greetings Fellow Readers! Sorry for the lateness, welcome to the March Edition of Ranting. There are handful of stuff I need to talk about so let's begin.

So head on over grab yourself one.

[Splatterbomb]

I'll come out and say it, 'Splatterbomb' got big. After successfully breaking the optimization the game was experiencing , it resulting in an increase of size. I have to deal with balancing issues and since NYC-Playtest group is the only group in the region I can go to with ease and available, I am expecting a lot of months to deal with this new stage of development. See at NYC-Playtest, I only get to playtest 'Splatterbomb™' once, which means I don't get to see all of the new game elements that I have added, then I have to wait until next month for another chance. My finances are still tight, so going to far away places is still unattainable.

So I have to shift development at this time, because I want to get a game in the hands of publishers as soon as possible. Also, because 'Splatterbomb' got big, I am unsure if I can convince a publisher to pick up 'Splatterbomb' since I have publishing credibility to back me up. Being untested and unproven may make publisher hesitate to invest on a large scale game. This does not mean i dropping 'Splatterbomb', the development is continuing but it is not top priority. It's still going to make rounds at event and stuff, but it is not the end goal at this time.

But the following game will be...

[Swap Off]

'Swap Off' is small card game I built last week. It is the smallest game I have built thus far and has the potential to entice Publishers to invest in it if they are interested. I have to get the game through Playtesting which will be happening soon. 'Swap Off' is going to take top priority because it is so small. The rules themselves are only a single, that is how small the game is. I already did the artwork for the characters and I am hoping that I won't spend so many months playtesting it and that I won't have to face any type of balancing issues. I pray that I can submit this by June-July the latest. I'm looking at 60% of my time spent on this game. Because this is so small, I am looking at other Publishing places such TheGameCrafter.com, though given my status as a developer, I will probably be more focused on finding a professional Publishing Company so I can start up a portfolio.

[Comic Books]

This week I have been dealing with my comic books, I wanted to more on 'Arcana Magi Rush' so I can submit to a publisher, but I expanded on another comic book which originally was supposed to be just an 8 Page short, it turned into a full One-Shot issue, twice. I was able to break them down into short, but the way I wrote it gave me flexibility to submit as a full comic instead of a short. I am going to stay on top of this and get 'Arcana Magi Rush' done so I can submit.

[Arcana Magi]

Speaking of which, 'Arcana Magi Memorial Vol. 5 c.4' is going to be next Friday as Scheduled. Though looking at the last chapter, I felt I didn't put enough meat into the writing. It's all dialogue. I don't if its good or not, but I personally felt I should have done better. So with the set up in c.3 that I establish, I hope I can put in the meat of narrative to build up a nice tense situation.

I think that is all I got for now. Thank you for hearing me Ranting. Again I apologize for being late. I'll see you on Fictionaut next week.

Until Next Time...

See ya.

Wednesday Rants: February 2015 Edition

Greetings Fellow Readers! Welcome to the another round of Wednesday Rants

[Arcana Magi 5th Season]

'Arcana Magi Memorial Vol.5' is underway. Chapter 2 will be this Friday as scheduled. I thank you all for dealing with the pacing of releases while working around Splatterbomb™. It feels a little weird typing into March. I haven't done that since 'Arcana Magi' years ago.

I still have to update 'Arcana Magi Rush' comic script. I will fit that into my schedule and then send it out to a Comic Book Publisher to see if I can get picked up. Right now the comic book is a 3 Issue Series, but it may change pending on re-writes and what the publisher wants, if should the comic get picked up.

[Splatterbomb™]

I added in a lot of new elements. The last playtest became a failure. The spine of the rules are so optimized that a small change was not enough to get players to use different strategies. At this stage, I took a lot of ideas lobbed at me by NYC-Playtest, as well as my own ideas that I set aside from the 1st and have added during the course the playtests. The board game has the look and feel of a video game right now. Until I can actually play this I won't know if these new mechanics break the optimization.

I also would like to do some video on Youtube for Splatterbomb™ hopefully in the coming months, featuring a character that I created and voiced myself for promo video I made last month for 'The NYC Arcade'. I have to deal with a few shortcomings before I can fully realize it. It won't be much but this video will just be off the cuff stuff to at least whet your appetites while development continues. They'll be very short videos, nothing big really.

Also don't forget to pick up Peanut Butter Jelly (Splatterbomb™ Theme) on Bandcamp and visit Alyssa Menes on her website. Both links are on the sidebar to the left.

[The Hudson Arcade]

Next week is the 'Hudson Arcade' at Mission 50 in Hoboken. I will be attending there, however I still have not received word on whether I will receive a table or not. If I do, everything that I did at 'NYC Arcade' will be there. There will be discount tickets for 'Peanut Butter Jelly (Splatterbomb™ Theme)' for those who play, promo video for your viewing, hopefully I'll get the audio to work, and of course, Splatterbomb™ itself to play. If not I will talk to the hosts to see if I can at least place the discount tickets at one of the brochure tables for anyone to pick up. Keep an eye on Twitter if should I get a table.

[Unexpected Scheduling Changes]

There are very private things happening around me right that are beyond my control. Chances are this could affect my scheduling after I set them. The next 7 months is not going to be easy for me, but time is marching on and I have to adapt. I am hoping that I can maintain control and not find myself dropping everything. I am trying to find the balance. Right now, everything is pacing, but I have a feeling in the coming months, it is going to interfere and sacrifices on my part will have to be made, which means any level of selfishness to succeed what I want must be cast aside. I must ask all of you for your patience and understanding when a sudden scheduling change occurs, I have to be by the side of people who expect me to be there when they need me.

So that's all I have for now on my mind. Thank you very much for your time today.

Until Next Time...

See ya.

Wednesday Rants: January Edition

Greetings Fellow Readers! Welcome to the first Wednesday Rants of 2015. I don't want to waste too much time so let's get started.

[Arcana Magi 5th Season]

I really want to thank all of my fellow readers for being so patient this month with the change of Schedule. 'Arcana Magi Zero Chapter 4' will be released this Friday and chapter next Friday. Now that I have overcome last weeks amazing venture for Splatterbomb™, I am now focusing on 'Arcana Magi'. I know it has been a very slow season, but I am getting the chapters done as planned. Next month we will be returning to 'Arcana Magi Memorial' with the 5th Volume of the series and see what Azure and company are up to.

Again thank you for all your patience.

[Splatterbomb™]

The game development has reached its peak. I have had very successful playtests the past couple of Saturdays and wonderful turnout at NYC Arcade at Microsoft in Manhattan. The spine of the game mechanics are at 100% and fully functional. I did make a submission but it did not result in publishing, but at least I learned a little from the publisher regarding the game. So at this point, the game's development is now focused on trying to open up the game because it is too tight and neatly package that it kind of stunts the game in terms of flexible gameplay. Basically players will just do the same thing over and over with each playthrough rather than seeing more of what game can offer.

As for the story itself, well I made a video outlining the premise, but it is still conceptual in nature. The reason I haven't written a story yet is because of the game's rules. I feel it would be bad on my part to introduce the game and the rules in the story does not reflect the rules of the actual game, regardless of the aesthetics of the story. I am also thinking of writing a Comic Book script for 'Splatterbomb™' primarily because I think writing in text may not convey what the game is about. I may be able to pull it off, but with a comic book you have the visual of what the parts of the game is about and what the world in totality looks like. I intend to make this more a comedy rather than a drama. Mainly because I am kind of tired of the dark, grim, gritty, moody settings of today's fiction, plus considering the premise of the story, well... we already have the high octane dramas of 'The Hunger Games' and 'Maze Runner', so yeah, I totally want to go all in with a comedy. Plus 'Splatterbomb' is about splattering paint, that in of itself should be presented as fun and the character themselves should have fun playing it and not worry about dying or getting killed.

Also don't forget to pick up Peanut Butter Jelly (Splatterbomb™ Theme) on Bandcamp and visit Alyssa Menes on her website. Both links are on the sidebar to the left.

[2015]

This is going to be a very unpredictable year given my life situation, but I have 'Arcana Magi' Season 5 and
'Splatterbomb™' to hold me up, but hopefully I can more announcements as the year rolls on so that cool things can happen. I look forward to another year of entertaining all of you, my fellow readers. May your 2015 be fulfilling and successful as well.

This Saturday is another 4P-Playtest session by NYC-PLaytest members, swing on by and try out
'Splatterbomb™'. It will be at Whole Foods in Tribeca, just a few blocks from 1 World Trade Center.

Until Next Time...

See ya.
