Wednesday Rants: December Edition

Greetings Fellow Readers! Welcome to another round of random ranting, the last of 2014. I hope you all enjoyed last weeks 'Arcana Magi Zero' Chapter 2, I am excited to get Chapter 3 out next week. But first I got a lot on my mind to share. So let's begin.

[Project Splatter]

-Splatterbomb™ the Board Game-

I was able to make to December session at NYC-Playtest. The game at that incarnation was success. The people who played, enjoyed the game. They were poking fun at each other rather poking holes at the game. During the game they threw in some ideas to add more depth to the game and I incorporated it. The only problem is that a single Stage playthrough lasts 90 minutes so my plan to have player, play through all the game boards are not going to happen. Special thanks to them for the ideas, the Core Rules of game in its new draft looks fleshed out.

I also added 3 new games mechanics to the Core Rules and created 2 sub categories for ease of understanding the gameplay. The Core Rules at this point make the game publishable. I will need to playtest these new mechanics to make sure they are ironed out. So basically what I am doing now is adding in filler, so to speak. I added Power Up Items, Enemies, new terrain which resulted in new Stages increasing the numebr from 3 to 6, maybe 7 by the time I go to the next playtest, we'll see. Basically these filler rules have zero impact on the Core Rules itself, so if I find them to be unusable, nothing of value is lost and I can go start courting publishers with the Core Rules in place. I just wanted to add little more meat for the players with these new features.

Finally the artwork has changed. I have used piq.codeus.com to make pixel art and the characters are more refined, the game board now looks like a video game as per its theme, and the enemies and items are fun to look at.

-Peanut Butter Jelly (Splatterbomb™ Theme)-

First, it's going to be released this Friday probably around 9:00 PM EST, but keep an eye out on Twitter and Quick NOTES for when it is posted up. It will be released on Bandcamp, and hopefully I can get it on Amazon alongside my other writings. Everything is all in order including the Song Cover itself which feature the new designed characters. For those of you who saw the 'Peanut Butter Jelly' Promo Clip, you will notice the difference. The price for the single will be $.99.

Once again, please check out Alyssa Menes' web page, the link is on the sidebar. She really did a good job composing the music, and April-Ann Tass did a remarkable job singing my lyrics.

-Splatterbomb™ The Fiction Prose-

I started this week writing 'About Splatterbomb™' for Amazon Kindle, but I did not like the direction I was going with it and may overthinking myself. I wanted it to be like a mockumentary style fiction, like if you were reading non-fiction. But it doesn't feel right as I typed the words down. So I am just going to straight classic prose fiction. It will be a Short Story collection. I might go 10 Stories, hopefully I can make it more comedy. Either way I am working on the story, I just don't know when I will get it released, so stay tuned.

-Splatterbomb™ Inspirations-

Okay, I want to address this because it is going to be slung at the game when I finally get it published.

The following works are my inspirations in the creation of Splatterbomb™:

By Ikoma and illustrated by Tomomoka Midori: Stella Women's Academy, High School Division Class C3

This Manga was adapted into an Anime by Studio Gainax, which I watched. It's about Yura Yamato who just transferred to the titular school who then joins the titular club. The club plays airsoft, while not paintball, it still follows the same mechanics as such.

By Hidekichi Matsumoto: Sabagebu! -Survival Game Club!-

This Manga is also adapted into an Anime by Pierrot+. Its the comedic counterpart to Stella Women's Academy, but to absurd levels like protagonist Momoka not being a shy young teen but one not hesitant to fire her airsoft gun at her ally after an alliance, in the head. Just as the above series, it follows airsoft but again this is to absurd levels. I would like to make Splatterbomb™ stories a comedy series, especially given the "video game" content of the board game.

By Atlus: Gotcha! The Sport!

Developed by Atlus and published by LJN, this Nintendo Entertainment System game was my first introduction to Paintball back in the 80s. It is a Light Gun game and played in "First Person" of sorts where you hit players with paintball.

By Nintendo: Splatoon

Currently in development by Nintendo is Splatoon. It definitely is part of my inspiration, but after all of the above in this list, it is not 100% the inspiration. I try to be careful with what I see from Nintendo, staying away from the developer diaries and press releases to avoid being influenced by them or turning Splatterbomb into a copycat. I really want my game to stand on its own two feet and its own merits, but I know the comparisons will be unavoidable. So I am looking to Gotcha and the Anime shows to see what I can make out of my game, and by extension the franchise, into something unique.

-Splatterbomb™ Trademark-

I have an official Trademark drawing for Splatterbomb™ which will debut this week on 'Peanut Butter Jelly' single. I had checked with the Trademark office and the ™ can be used under Common Law, at least until I can get the funds needed to officially register the Trademark. This Trademark will be used commercially across all mediums. I chose to mention this so to give people a heads up, I don't if this is the right idea, but considering that I have been saying the name Splatterbomb™, I feel I need to protect the name if I want to get this into commerce by some modicum of measure.

[Arcana Magi Universe]

I was very surprised by the turnout over the weekend and I wanted to take the time to thank all of my readers for showing up to Chapter 2. I look forward to releasing Chapter 3 next Friday. We had a blackout in my hometown and that delayed Chapter 2. I was worried it would have turned every one away. So again I thank you for riding the storm out with me. Hopefully next week there won't be a blackout to mess me up.

[The Year 2014]

This has been a unique year. I came into 2014 with uncertainty and I am leaving 2014 a lot better position than I could ever ask for. The Network Connection I have made are solid. I have made submissions and am in a waiting period. I celebrated 'Arcana Magi' Fifth Anniversary with an awesome crossover and the Kindle release of the Zero Short Stories, even revisiting my first characters of the Universe. New York Comic Con was very successful. Playtesting has been more fruitful than last year and now I have an official song coming out this week.

Although there are a lot of hurdles hitting in the gut, it is not taking away anything I have accomplished this year. I don't know what 2015 is going to bring, but if the only direction is down, well then I only have one direction to go...

Up.

Thank you my fellow readers for reading my stories and following my escapades of 2014. I look forward to seeing all of you in 2015. So have a safe Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Until Next Time...

See ya...

Wednesday Rants: November 2014

Greetings Fellow Readers! Welcome to another round of random ranting. So the time has finally come to announce that Special Project I have been talking about for the past couple of months. Let us begin.

PROJECT SPLATTER

So for those who have been following me the past couple of months, I have been playtesting my board game 'Spltterbomb'TM that I debuted at IGDA Game Demo Night in Hoboken, NJ and worked on at NYC-Playtest group. Well I have been making plans to expand on the game in the hopes of getting 'Splatterbomb'TM published once the prototype is fully playtested and the rules and game mechanics are ironed out. So what are the plans of Project Splatter? Well all of this was due to one little thing that I arranged which I will start with in the rundown of what involves Project Splatter.

[Peanut Butter Jelly (SplatterbombTM Theme)]

DISCLAIMER: Very sorry for the technical difficulties, apparently Blogspot has 100MB limit and the sample clip is over 400MB)

UPDATE: A little Movie Maker magic and BAM, sample clip of the 'Peanut Butter Jelly'. Enjoy.

This is what is making Project Splatter possible. Over the Summer, after having demonstrated 'Splatterbomb'TM at IGDA Game Demo Night, I had an idea for a song that popped into my head after visiting Peanut Butter & Co. in New York City. During the Game Demo Night I met a musician by the name of Alyssa Menes (portfolio.acmenesmusic.com), who does video game music and theme songs for YouTube Channels. Her link is on the sidebar "External Link Section". I wanted a theme song for my 'Prototype Presentation' of 'Splatterbomb'TM, so we collaborated and made this. So the plan is that Project Splatter is going to revolve around this theme song.

The song itself will be on sale at Bandcamp on Friday December 5th, 2014. Our Bandcamp Page is still under development, but the address is studiocoqui.bandcamp.com.

So make sure to pick yourself up a copy of Peanut Butter Jelly (SplatterbombTM Theme).

[Splatterbomb Short Stories on Kindle]

Next there will be Short Stories written on the world of 'Splatterbomb'TM. The plot will be focusing on the competition and base rules of the game. I have the plot written out in the game, so I will be building from there. I had thought about Fictionaut, but I feel Kindle is more stronger providing support in the games development, including building prototypes and purchasing game pieces with the Kindle revenue. I have yet to decide how many Shorts I will make available in one book, but I will make sure there is enough to justify a purchase. I will also put in the Kindle programs like Shell, so I can provide discounts from time to time.

[Splatterbomb Audio Books on iTunes or Audible]

With the Kindle comes the Audiobooks. I will be looking to set up Audiobooks of the 'Splatterbomb'TM Shorts Stories. Again just like Kindle, I don't how much I am going to put into one package, but it is decision that will probably be last second. Again with iTune and/or Audible, the revenue can help in the games development process. I am forgoing YouTube because from I am understanding, Audible and iTunes have exclusivity clauses and I don;t want to post an Audio Reading video if it causes me to lose my membership with both.

[Some Transparency]

I have thought of many avenues to go with this project the past 48 hours. One was using Patreon in conjunction with Fictionaut and Youtube, but like I have said before, there is something about Patreon that is enticing, but it makes me hesitant to jump into. It has that "Too good to be true" vibe, and one thing I have learned is that there is no such thing as easy money. I have seen people not use Patreon and achieve a level of excellence on the internet which proves that it can be done as long as one perseveres. In every sense of the word, being that I can write a story and create an audiobook as my Youtube have shown, I have come to the conclusion that I do not need Patreon to generate revenue.

Also, some events have recognized Amazon Kindle as professional level to attend their events and that may include iTunes/Audible. So I would to be able to upkeep that in order to attend those event and make networks connections. It also helps me with providing a little credibility amongst top professional companies.

There are plenty of plans for me to attain revenue, like merchandising, i.e. 'Splatterbomb'TM T-Shirts, comic books (Read Below), and buttons, which again can be possible if 'Peanut Butter Jelly (SplatterbombTM Theme)', SplatterbombTM Kindle Publishing and Audiobooks sell well. All this on top of getting the official 'Splatterbomb'TM board game in the hands of a publisher.

So I will be setting up schedule next month during 'NEWS and NOTES' regarding 'Splatterbomb'TM so stay tuned.

Now for other NOTES.

[Scheduling Pattern]

'Arcana Magi' Universe is underway. I thank all the readers who turned out for the 5th Anniversary Short Stories. I am glad that many of you enjoyed seeing your favorite characters in one setting. Due to Project Splatter the scheduling pattern is going to lengthen the 5th Season, which I hope makes some of you happy. So the scheduling pattern is going to work like this.

-1st Monday of the month: 'NEWS and NOTES'
-2nd Friday of the month: 'Arcana Magi'
-3rd Wednesday of the Month: 'Wednesday Rants'
-3rd Friday of the Month: 'Splatterbomb' Event; If necessary.
-Last Friday of the Month: 'Arcana Magi'

The 1st week of the month will be 'NEWS and NOTES' but it will also serve as time off for me. So I can get my brain rested up, give myself some time to work on things not related to 'Arcana Magi', and most importantly rest.

[Comic Books]

That's right I am throwing my hat into the comic books ring. I had a very successful New York Comic Con walking with Comic Book Editors, writer, artists, and companies. I joined ComicsExperience.com to help improve my script writing, however my finances went against me and I had to leave after one month. Again, buying 'Peanut Butter Jelly (Splatterbomb Theme)' and my books will really help out here.

Anyway, I highly recommend all who are interested in creating Comic Books to check Comics Experience out. They are very good. They are a nice community. And they are very helpful in the development of writers, artist, letterers, which ever field you are interested in.

So what have I done so far, well I have adapted 'Arcana Magi Rush' into a comic book as part of the 5th Anniversary and I am currently seeking Comics Company to publish it. It is 3 Issues in length and very exciting. I also am writing 'The Unsung Heroes Shadow Watch'. It's a superhero team comic. I drew the team emblem and written some Short Story Scripts and Issue #1 of the series. So I am also seeking out a publisher on that front. I will also write a script for 'Splatterbomb' but that will be much later.

This is a very exciting venture I am stepping into and I am looking forward to bringing my stories toe Comics crowd. I will be honest, writing a script is very hard. Part of writing a Comic Script is writing in present tense, and when you have written as long as I have in the past tense, it is very difficult to adjust to, but I am adapting well and am having fun with the writing.

So that is all I have in mind. Thank you for listening to my rants. Stay tuned on my Twitter feed, Facbook Events page, and here for all the schedules on 'Arcana Magi' and 'Splatterbomb'. Next Week will be the return of our first heroines of 'Arcana Magi Universe' with 'Arcana Magi Zero c. 1', it will be a 5-chapter short novel. So join me then.

Again please make sure to visit Alyssa Menes site at portfolio.acmenesmusic.com. The link will be on sidebar.

So that's all for the ranting,

Until Next Time...

See ya.

Wednesday Rants: October 2014

Greetings Fellow Readers! Welcome to another round of ranting. I have some very sad news to announce amongst the good so let's start there because it is important.

[Prototype Presentations Delayed]

In light of events that happened at New York Comic Con, I am shifting writing priorities right now and something has to give. What happened at the convention is that I have made exchanges of business cards and information from writing publishers. As a result, I need to focus on writing more than ever at this moment. So since 'Prototype Presentations' is a YouTube video and is not a publishing issue, I am putting it aside in order to focus on new writings, which I will explain in the next segment.

I am still going to continue playtesting 'Splatterbomb' at NYC-Playtest next month and I will try to get a table at the IGDA Game Demo Night in Hoboken when the next session happens, but right now, Youtube videos are going to have to wait. The other reason this is okay is that I already have a tabletop game currently under review with a publisher, so as much I want to keep pushing forward with my games, it is not something of high priority when I need to really step up and climb the ladder of success. I apologize to any of you who were expecting the next 'Prototype Presentation', but Youtube does not give me publishing cred.

[New York Comic Con]

My time at the convention has been very good. It was fun. I got to speak to writers, editors and artists in the comic book industry. I learned that there was a script writing contest and so I submitted to it. So, I have decided to re-strategize my script writing approach. I am going to refocus from writing a large series to write 1-shot issues to use as submissions to comic book companies. I intend to adapt some of my Kindle published stories into comic books. I may even do one for 'Arcana Magi'. In the end, I want to expand my writing range amongst the media and not limit myself to just novels, short stories, or tabletop games.

[Arcana Magi 5th Anniversary]

Well we are 2 weeks away from the 5th season of 'Arcana Magi' and here I am to present you the complete list of 'Arcana Magi' titles for 2014-2015 Season. NOTE that this is not in release order.

Arcana Magi 5th Anniversary Short Story
Arcana Magi Memorial
Arcana Magi Pure
Arcana Magi: Return (Short Story)
Arcana Magi Bolt (Short Story)
Arcana Magi Zero

All four universes will be represented this year. Now again, because of my shift to writing comic book scripts, I will be taking the first week of each month off. Meaning, the season will run very long. This will also help with the 'NEWS and NOTES' scheduling to prevent any work landing on the as the 'NEW and NOTES'. So be ready for a nice long 'Arcana Magi' Season.

[Special Project]

It is pacing along fine. The Special Project is going through another draft. Please keep remember to keep your eye on twitter for when the project is complete.

[Final Thought]

I believe that is everything on my mind and I just know I am gonna snap my finger while you are reading this wishing I had not forget it. So thank you all for listening to my rants. Again, I apologize for delaying 'Prototype Presentations', but I do have a new avenue for my writings and the sooner I get started, the better my chances of success.

So I'll see you all for the 5th Anniversary in two weeks.

Until Next Time...

See ya.

Wednesday Rants: September 2014

Greetings Fellow Readers! Welcome to another round of Wednesday Ranting. Plenty of stuff to talk about today so let's begin. A very big rant at the end.

[IGDA Arcade and Game Demo Night]

I am sad to announce that I was not granted a table this month for 'The Jumpers'. The registration turnout was really high this time. The event has gotten bigger. However, I am in the short list for the next IGDA Arcade and Game Demo Night so I will have a chance at presenting 'The Jumpers'.

I will be attending this month as planned. Feel free to chat with me or play a game with me at the event.

[NYC-Playtest]

NYC-Playtest is always the first Saturday of the month. So that would mean the next event will be Saturday, October 4th. Keep on an on their calender here in their official website;

http://nycplaytest.com/

I'll post on Twitter when I make my RSVP to attend. I will be continuing to playtest 'Splatterbomb'. I believe the game is now at the point of being publishable.

[Special Project]

This is also nearing the end of completion. As soon as it is done and I finalize everything, I will make the announcement here, Twitter and Facebook. So stay tuned.

[Prototype Presentations]

I am going to make a new Prototype Presentation Video for 'Splatterbomb' next month after NYC-Playtest. Hopefully this will be the publishable version and not a draft, but either way, I intend to make a video for it.

[Arcana Magi 5th Season]

The 5th Anniversary is a little over a month away. I will announce the remaining titles in next months 'Wednesday Rants' that will cover the 5ht Season. I also plan to write a little something in the Fictionaut forums to celebrate this great milestone on the day of the Anniversary.

[Audio Reading/Patreon Posting]

Now, I would like to take a serious moment to talk to you about this. I have signed up, but I have not "Upgraded" to the status of posting videos. Honestly, I feel very hesitant about it. I want to focus on advertising via Youtube, but real life is not exactly running in my favor. For those of you who do not know what Patreon is here is the link;

http://www.patreon.com/

It's like Kickstarter, only instead of pooling in a single lump sum over a period of time, its like a monthly "Tip Jar". I have touch base with the people who run Patreon to understand how this works, and it is very enticing, but something about this that rubs me the wrong. Now maybe its just paranoia and its really nothing, but it something that I am really thinking over before I make any decisions.

Now for what my plan would be on Patreon. I would do both Written Postings and Audio Reading Videos of 'Beyond Logic'. 'Beyond Logic' would be exclusive to Patreon and no other work. My writing would be more Flash Fiction at minimum 500 words. I am taking inspiration from H.P. Lovecraft, whom wrote very short stories like 'What the Moon Brings'. That lasted 1 page and half in 'The Other Gods and More Unearthly Tales'. So I know I am not feeling a little cheap. Going Flash Fiction for written posts and Audio Readings will help me try to write with more frequency.

Aside from feeling nervous about Patreon, there is also another problem and that is 'Arcana Magi' Season 5. If I pull the trigger on this Patreon Project, something has to give because I have make these 'Beyond Logic' postings at least once a month. That means that 'Arcana Magi' postings on Fictionaut are going to be slow, the season will be longer than it should.

Now I just want to make this clear. Patreon is a last resort. I don't want to jump into it for the wrong reasons, and try and give the real world here outside the internet a chance to give me a break. I want to make that if I do go through Patreon, it is fair for all of you. That if you decide to support me via Patreon, it's worth your trouble and effort. But like I said, Patreon there is something about it that makes me hesitant and I have nothing to assure that this is the right thing for me to do, for my future and finances.

Thank you.

- The next 'NEWS and NOTES' will be Monday, October 6, 2014. Thank you for listening to my rants. Fall begins this weekend, let's get ready for some cold breeze.

Until Next Time...

See ya.

Wednesday Rants: August 2014

Greetings Fellow Readers! Welcome to another round of Wednesday Rants. I do have some things to talk about, so let's get on with the ranting.

[Special Project]

Right now, I have invested in a special project. I cannot get to full into details because this project is currently under development. I should expect to announce on the next rants when it is completed. Believe me, you will love what I engaged in. Just hum a melody as you wait for the next set of news.

[New York Comic Con]

I am sad to announce that I did not get picked up this year for an 1 Hour Autograph Booth. So I will not be getting a chance to sign autographs. My ticket to NYCC is secured. I will be attending all 4 days, Thurs - Sun, roaming halls as always. I will be looking to network and exchange business cards.

[Literary Agent]

I am currently looking for a Lit. Agent to represent my written works. The first one I am pitching is 'The Compilation of Prose and Thought: a Trainee's Perspective on Writing'. For those of you joining me and do not know. Last year I wrote segments here in this Blog called 'Thoughts on Writing', and I decided to make easier for people to read these thoughts of mine, I compiled them together and inserted some of my Sort Stories and other fictional writing as a showcase of my work and writing ability. So I am pitching this to Agents in the hopes of getting a House Publisher to put on bookshelves, while I continue to work on Dreamwalker Kumiko, my fantasy novel.

[Works on Fictionaut and Blog Links]

You might have noticed recently that I set some stories to private in Fictionaut and removed some links. This is in relation to the 'The Compilation of Prose and Thought: a Trainee's Perspective on Writing'. A couple of shorts were selected to be included in this book. So I had to ensure that there would be no publishing problem, however, the decision to remove the selected stories from Fictionaut is still on the table. This will most likely be an 11th hour decision and will not be warned in advance.

[Arcana Magi 5th Season]

So the 5th Year of 'Arcana Magi' is around the corner. I kicked it off early with 'Tales of Arcana Magi' currently available on Amazon Kindle. The list of stories that are going to be released on Fictionaut so far is as follows;

-Arcana Magi Memorial Vol. 5
-Arcana Magi Pure Vol. 5

There will be 3 more stories 1 for the Byakko Universe and a return to the Suzaku Universe. The final titles will be announced next month.

Finally the official start of Season 5 will be Thursday October 30, the first day 'Arcana Magi Zero' was posted on Fictionaut, I look forward to seeing you all then.

[Board Game Playtesting]

Keep your eyes out on Twitter for any upcoming announcements of future Playtests like IGDA New Jersey Game Demo Night or NYC Playtest. I have made some more board games and revisited others that I had been working on. Now I am taking them out to the field for thorough to improve and fine tune the games and rules. I do look forward to seing you all at these events.

So that is all I have on my mind. Thank you all for listening to my rants. Be sure to get your free copy of 'Shell' next Friday on Amazon Kindle.

Until Next Time...

See ya.

Wednesday Rants: July 2014 #1

Greetings Fellow Readers! Welcome to another round of random ranting. There are things that I am going to have to discuss, as I am sure you may have questions. So let us begin.

[Arcana Magi]

You may have noticed by now that I had released some stories from 'Arcana Magi' onto Amazon Kindle. Well there are a few reasons for this; 1) After having received a notice regarding 'Beyond Logic Vol.1' when I was updating the Amazon Kindle release with a book cover, I wanted to make sure that everything was okay regarding publishing, and it is. 2) Because of this event, I figured this was a good opportunity to try a little something for this upcoming Season... 5. That's right, 'Arcana Magi' will be 5 year old having debut on Fictionaut in 2009. 3) Therefore, since 'Arcana Magi Zero', the first in the series, is 5 Years Old, I decided to give it the Amazon Kindle release.

As for 'Arcana Magi Rush', I want it included in 'Compilation of Prose and Thought' for House Publishing because, I feel it is a strong story that exemplifies what I discussed regarding female characters. It is also an awesome story to get published with my other shorts since its giant robots versus dragons. Finally I feel it is a good representation of the entire 'Arcana Magi Universe' on a Publishing House scale.

There will be more on the 5th Anniversary as October nears.

[New York Comic Con]

It's that season again, New York Comic Con. (http://www.newyorkcomiccon.com/) So I got myself a Professional Badge for a second year in a row. I will be wandering the halls once again, but I have good news. I was able to register for a 1 Hour Autograph Session and it is under review. The results will occur next month. If accepted, I will be autographing copies of 'Tales From Arcana Magi' and 'The Impossible Man' Amazon book covers for free. I had thought about doing a panel, but I think this year may not be a good time. I want to take this one step at a time. Plus I don;t know what I would do aside from talking about the above 2 stories and Q&A. I want to get a little more stuff under my belt, like an actual publication from a house before tackling the Panels. So, I'll let you all know if I get a booth, and provide all the info needed to come see me and get a chance to meet me, finally.

[NJ Game Demo Night]

Thank you to all who had come by my table and played my board game Splatterbomb. Big thanks to Brian Chung for hosting the event and International game Developers Association for sponsoring it. Check out the sweet photos of all the awesome games and fans. https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10152507671090569.1073741831.141515290568&type=1

[Compilation of Prose and Thought]

This book that I have made features a compilation of my 'Thoughts on Writing' that are featured here in my Blogspot, but I also include a selection of Short Stories, many of which never been released, to showcase my writing abilities. This here is a list of what the shorts chosen for this work;

Days of Fate and Destiny
De x Maquina Chronicles
Beyond Logic - The Spectral Line
The Parody Writer and His Gluteus Maximus
Lorhavyn
Arcana Magi Rush
A World Onto Our Hands

A mixture of Science Fiction, Fantasy, Comedy and Poetry, written in many different ways. Hopefully, once I suceed in getting this published and into bookstore, everyone can enjoy a buffet of different tales and styles, and see what I bring to the table.

So that is all I have on my mind this month. Next week is 'Audio Readings: Feral' as well as Free 'Shell' Friday. Be sure to get your free copy, as always.

Until Next Time...

See ya.

Quick NOTES: June 2014 #2

Greetings Fellow Readers! Welcome to an emergency Quick NOTES. You may have noticed certain things have changed or altered and that is because there have been decisions made, so please understand.

[Seeking a Publishing House]

Last night I made the decision to forgo writing a fourth Beyond Logic and decided instead to compile together some of my works that I have not released and 3 works that I have placed in Fictionaut to be companion segments with a book called 'The Compilation of Thought and Prose: A Trainees Look at Writing'. Basically I am going to look to publish all of 'Thoughts on Writing' and include from Fictionaut; 'Beyond Logic: The Spectral Line', 'Day of Fate and Destiny', 'Arcana Magi Rush' and yes 'Shell' because why not? ;) I am also including 4 unreleased stories stories. They are a Comedy and fantasy microshort, a De x Maquina Chronicle and a new poem. And finally a brief look at my discipline. It's not very bog or detailed but just straight forward and definitions.
So basically my intent is take these 'Thoughts on Writing' and have them published in book format by an actually Publishing House and include these stories to compliment what I am trying to convey. My intent is not to teach as I had said in my first 'Thoughts on Writing' but share what I have learned and what I put to practice. Hopefully, this book will help invoke conversation which will a great accomplishment.
What does this mean for the stories and 'Thoughts on Writing'? Well I don't know yet. I am not sure if I would have to purge them out of the Internet and Fictionaut in order to get them book published. In the meantime, I have set the Fictionaut stories to Private and removed the direct links to 'Thoughts on Writing' here. I apologize to all of you for this inconvenience, but I feel it is time to get a publishing house, and considering all that I have written here on Blogspot, I think 'Thoughts on Writing' material should be good enough for the houses. My only alternative is Kindle, but I need to evolve and take the next step with my writing and hopefully future career.
I thank you all for your patience and understanding, and look forward to write more stories for you in the future no matter the format.

Until Next time...

See ya.

Wednesday Rants: June 2014 #1

Greetings Fellow Readers! Welcome to another round of random ranting. There a few important that have happened this past weekend that I need to address so lets get started.

[Kindle Book Covers]

So if any of you have been on Kindle, you may have noticed that I have made Book Covers for all my works that I have released. It is not spectacular, but I wanted a little something different than Amazon's own generic covers. Again, I am not much of an artist but at least my stories have a little sense of identity when picking up a copy. So if you have a copy and it's not updated, then go right on ahead and update the new cover.

[Fictonaut]

Now to segway from Amazon to Fictionaut, you may have noticed that 'Shell', 'Artemis Neo' and 'Beyond Logic: The Spectral Line' have been set to private. This was because when I updated the book cover on Kindle, I had to re-submit the books to complete the update. So since Amazon has to go through the internet before publishing the books, they apparently found 'Beyond Logic: The Spectral Line' in Fictionaut and assumed that that was part of 'Beyond Logic Vol. 1'. So I had to go into Fictionaut and set that to Private. Once I did that, the re-submission of 'Beyond Logic Vol.1' was complete. To be safe I did the same for 'Shell' and 'Artemis Neo'.
Unfortunately, this will have to be on a permanent basis. See Amazon makes clear in their policy taht whatever we authors release on Kindle, Amazon has first dibs. This means we cannot have our works free on the internet, which include Fictionaut. To violate this would be to lose our account, in this case mine. Having published on Kindle yielded some benefits for me, like last year I was able to attend New York Comic Con as a Professional because I released 'The Impossible Man' on Kindle. I would like to keep that up. So I am afraid that any work in Fictionaut that gets released on Kindle will be locked to Private.

[Beyond Logic]

Which brings us to this situation. I wanted to release a new Beyond Logic on Fictionaut and then bring it out alongside The Spectral Line on Kindle. Because of Amazon's policies this will not be possible. However, I will release the new Beyond Logic Short, but it will be directly to Amazon Kindle. So do expet beyonf Logic Volume 2 later this year.

[Ads on Youtube]

To shift focus, I have free time on my hands now from real world stuff, so I will be reading up on Youtube Ad policy, and then sign up. When it will happened I am not sure, but know that I am not going to use the ads videos, if that is an option, and instead use the banners that pop up during the video, so you can just click out of it while the video is running.

[New Project]

I am working on a new board game right now. I am hoping that I can acquire a table for the upcoming IGDA New Jersey Game Demo Night on July 1. https://www.facebook.com/events/1425340371078446/?ref=22 If I do get a table the new board game I am working on will be demonstrated. But tables are limited, and they want to shift their focus more towards video games, so hopefully, I'll get lucky and have a table.

Okay, so that is all that I have on mind this month. Monday July 7 will be the next 'NEWS and NOTES'. Next Friday is Free 'Shell' Friday if you have not picked up your copy yet. Thank you all for listening to my rants, it was fun sharing my thoughts.

Until next time...

See ya

Wednesday Rants: May 2014 #1

Greetings Fellow Readers! Welcome to the 1 hour delayed edition of Wednesday Rants. I thank you for you patience. Now let us begin.

So having Windows Movie Maker has left me ideas. Lots and lots of ideas. So I will give you the rundown of what I would like to do with this program on my Studio Coqui You Tube Channel

[You Tube: Audio Readings]

So far everything is going slowly due to real life, but everything is going according to plan. 'The First Run' is a Short Story after all and there is no verbal dialogue from characters. So this should not be difficult for my first try. I just hope that my voice will be good and strong once I begin reading. I am still concerned about doing character voice with my other works, particularly female voices. I don't want to come off as insulting when doing such voices. I'll figure it out sure enough. Now another I am looking into and will most likely do is Youtube Advertising. I'm not exactly rich and I need to pay bills and take care of myself, also supplies for my works. I still do not understand fully how advertising on Youtube works, but once I figure it out, that is the course I will take.

Now for the Audio Readings, there is not gonna be much in the way of presentation, like animation of still image slideshow. It's just gonna be the title and my voice. Which might be a good thing because you can listen while doing other things at the same time, like many audio books. Another thing that may come out of this is Editing. I have a feeling I am going to find some grammar off course while I do takes, which means I will be updating the stories as I progress. If this does happen, then I will update the Kindle releases to reflect what was read on 'Audio Readings', so if you own a copy be ready to update it when I give the notice.

[You Tube: Thoughts on Writing]

So with Windows Movie Maker comes ideas, and this idea is something I may do. I will do a reading of 'Thoughts on Writing' as posted here on Blogspot. All episodes will be directly from these posts word for word. No decision yet on original episodes. Just like Audio Readings there will be ads involved, but I see no reason to hold back all my 'Thoughts on Writing' posts at all.

[You Tube: Game Development Corner or R&D Table]

Haven't figured out a name yet, but yes this is still on and Cyber Tactics® is still on tap. I have decided that I will just what I want for Cyber Tactics® and not dwell on the final product. After all the point of this show is to share some of what I did and give a progress on the games developments. This will also have ads, and not everything I made will appear in these episodes because of trade secrets. Nevertheless, I will mix the still slideshow with videos from my R&D Table as seen in 'Prototype Presentations'.

[Fictionaut: Beyond Logic]

I want to write up a new 'Beyond Logic' this Summer on Fictionaut, then compile that with the last 'Beyond Logic' for Kindle. Stay tuned for details on this next Short Story, it will hinge on scheduling and real life.

So that is all I have on my mind this month. Get ready next Friday for another round of Free 'Shell' Fridays and in two weeks 'Audio Readings: The First Run' on Youtube. Thanks for joining me.

Until next time...

See ya

Wednesday Rants: April 2014 #1

Greetings Fellow Readers! Welcome to another round of Wednesday Ranting. This has been quite a slow Spring Month, but as Spring always brings about, is new beginnings... on YouTube

[YouTube]

I finally got myself a Vid Editor. It's called Movie Maker and I am quite surprised at how simple it is to make a slideshow video. This is actually wonderful because not only can I make the videos on YouTube I want, but I don't have to stress over it. Like I don't need to be super professional. Of course, I still have to learn how to fully utilize it and that is where the Prototype Presentation will come in. Next week's presentation of Artemis Neo Advance will be done with Movie Maker as a learning curve to make a slideshow video. It will feature opening credits, maybe a public domain song, and slideshow of the game to illustrate how it works. So I will not be using my webcam, considering the quality of the work of previous presentations. So once I get this down pat, then I will proceed with a "Developer Showcase" of Cyber Tactics®.

[Cyber Tactics® on Youtube]

This is going to take a while longer than had anticipated. This is because I had new ideas of the game as well as restoring old ideas. Basically, as a prototype, I need to showcase everything this game has. At first I was going to make separate sets but I found it to be not feasible, and unwise. So what was going to be a 210 card set is 410 card set and that means either bringing in old cards from previous drafts or make new cards. So that is the situation with Cyber Tactics on YouTube. I'm apologize for this long delay, but I feel confident about sharing all of the game design with you publicly and I want to make sure I have all of that design I want to show readily available.

[Audio Readings on Youtube]

This is still going to happen, especially with the help of Movie Maker. There are a lot of things I am debating about regarding this. See I can do the slide show of course of my stories for illustrative purposes, or, I could take the lazy way and just show the title of the story in the slideshow. There are a lot of pros and cons in that regard. It's a matter of whether I want to make a presentation out of it. Another problem I am having is my voice, since I have to be the one to narrate. Should I make various voices of characters, including female voices. Should I try bringing in people to provide extra voices. Or should I just go through with my regular voice. It kind of got me thinking through a lot of stuff. The final part is what stories should I tell. Like should bringing in 'Arcana Magi', do I read Kindle Stories and forgo Audible.com. There are a lot of things I can do with this and I don't where to begin. Of course I could start small with 'Days of Fate and Destiny' and see how that goes.

[Conclusion]

So basically with Movie Maker, I now have a new field to travel for all of written works and inventions. It's like the skies the limit. Honestly, i do feel overwhelmed because there is so much I can do with program, and I have a lot of IPs I can make with this. Then there is real life breathing down my neck which can effect my scheduling to make things. Overall, I want to have fun doing this, and sharing this fun with all of you. I really look forward to entertaining you and give you in depth look at my inventions. I highly recommend those of you who want to do Youtube videos with an editor to get Movie Maker for the basic stuff, like slideshows. I feel that is the best program for such thing. Or else, if you're looking to make grand movie quality live action stuff, get something like Final Cut Pro.

Thank you all for listening to my rants. I will see you all next Friday on Youtube for my Prototype Presentation of 'Artemis Neo Advance. Also keep in mind that Free 'Shell' Friday is also next week, so head on over to Kindle and grab yourself a free copy.

Until next time...

See ya.

Wednesday Rants: March 2014 #2

Greetings Fellow Readers! Welcome to the second issue of Wednesday Rants March edition. Since I am on time, I am going to talk a little more in depth about my 2 YouTube plans as I had planned, so let us begin.

[Cyber Tactics® Developer Log]

I apologize for not having this video ready this month. The thing is that I had to deal with a few things behind the scenes regarding trade secrets before I would release a video. Hopefully this will be settled in a couple of weeks. The other problem is, as will be the same for next segment I'll talk about, is a video editor. As some you may watched my videos, 'Prototype Presentations', they are not exactly high quality. The other problem is trying to see the cards and what they do. That is a big problem if you can't see what I am talking very well. I may mix a video in from time to time if I need to do a physical action, but the idea of doing a video slideshow is the show the cards much closer on the screen and even throw in some diagrams if needed.

However, finding a good cheap editor is very difficult. After what happened last year when my computer's hard rive burned out and left me a full month with no computer to do any work, I don't want to risk that with the wrong program. This will be a daunting task of course, I want this series of videos to do good, be informative, and very accessible whenever the game hits the market for those who purchase their copy of the game.

After I do manage to get an editor, this is going to take some time for to learn how to use such a thing because I have no editing experience or film making experience, which will be fun but most likely exhaustive. Heck doing the presentations was hard enough as it is because of all the stuttering over my script. But once all of this falls into place, you all learn more about Cyber Tactics I didn't show in the 'Prototype Presentations' and hopefully you will all find the game much more entertaining.

This is another project I want to do and this one I will need an editor of course, just like above, so I can record my voice. After all I need a title card of my writings sprawled on the screen. I took a look at other YouTube videos that have done readings and they just had the title sit there for the duration of the video. They may get broken down into smaller videos, I'll probably keep them at 10 Minutes each so as to drain any of you like a wall of text.

Now because this is an entirely new experience for me, I may start off small, since I never done editing. I'll probably go with 'Days of Fate and Destiny' to see test everything out and see how my voice sounds. having a good voice and good microphone is very important and again this require me to not sound boring. I don;'t know if making character voices seems necessary, especially with females since I can't produce a female voice, but it will be fun to try.

Finally there is the question of illustrations, to reflect certain scenes or maybe characters when they talk to a shot-reverse shot type of clip when talking, so you know who is talking, considering that my voice may be one-note. Plus it might be fun eye candy for you all, but that is something that will be very very later in the future.

Nevertheless, I will start small and work my way to bigger stories to get better and better. I may even produce an original story exclusive to the readings. In the end I want to have fun doing this and really get my stories out there and to a wider audience. Of course, I should also to be on the safe side, do a little editing of the writing first just to be safe with the end product.

[NEWS and NOTES]

The first Monday of April is the 7th. At 8:00pm EST, I will post up April's scheduling.

Until next time...

Wednesday Rants: March 2014 #1

Greetings Fellow Readers! Welcome to a late edition of Wednesday Rants. My apologies. because fo the short time I have before Thursday arrives, I am gonna keep this short.

[Arcana Magi Season 4]

I want to thank all of my fellow Readers for joining me this season for Memorial and Pure. Next season will be the 5ht Anniversary of 'Arcana Magi'. I have yet to figure what I am going to do, but I do want to make it special. So join me in October, when the 5th kicks off.

[Cyber Tactics on Youtube]

The plan to have a video up this month is still in the works. Basically the plan is to cover all things Cyber Tactics, from individual cards to game mechanics. it will be in depth with each subject. However, I have not decided how I will approached this. I could use the R&D Table like in the Prototype Presentations, but I am also thinking about slideshow, but I don't how to pull that off. I'll have it all figured out soon enough.

[Prototype Presentations]

I am in the selection process of what to present, but I will be working on a new video to present another game. Stay tuned for more details.

[Youtube Readings]

I am interested in doing video readings of my works on Youtube, but just like the Cyber Tactics on youtube, I don't know how to approach this and make it work. Also scheduling. Once I figure it all out, then I will make announcements.

[Free 'Shell' Friday]

Just to give a heads up, this week is another Free 'Shell' Friday so feel free to snatch a copy if you haven't yet.

So these are the rants this time around. Again I apologize for being late. I really have no excuse for this. Thank you all for joining me.

Until next time..

See ya.

Wednesday Rants: February 2014

Greetings Fellow Readers! Welcome to the first Wednesday Rant of 2014. I hope you are all enjoying the new year so far. There is stuff to talk about so let's get to it.

[About the Hiatus]

Okay. I mentioned that I was going to re-write my novel Dreamwalker Kumiko as part of my hiatus for the past two months. Everything was going well with the re-write until something happened along the way. Well I received an appointment with Mayfair Games, which was held today at New York Toy Fair. This resulted in shifting all my attention to my prototypes which I spent the past two months dealing with. So third drafting my novel went into the back burner and then this month happened to continue 'Arcana Magi Universe' Season 4. Thankfully, the sacrifice was not for nothing and while cannot get into details at this time, my attention is spreading out. Once I deal with 'Arcana Magi Pure vol.4', I will most likely go into hiatus again to deal with this. The door has been opened and I need to break through, now that I have a chance. I will NOTE that if and when I need to do so.

[Arcana Magi Universe]

Because of the change in events regarding my appointment with Mayfair Games, I would like to apologize for any poor quality in the writing of 'Arcana Magi Pure' so far. It was not intentions to put out a a bad product and I am doing my best under these conditions to at least make the storytelling accessible in contrast to the writing itself. I am also hoping despite there being 5 Chapters involved that I do not paint the story into a corner that could ruin the characters or plot. Chapter 3 is coming out this week as planned. I will do my best to put out a good chapter.

[Plans for 2014]

Well I had plans for 2014. For instance a new 'Beyond Logic' was planned. I was gonna see about doing audio stories on Youtube for my writings, as well as videos for 'Cyber Tactics' card game. But now they are going to be on a case by case basis as I deal with Mayfair Games these next couple of months. Once all the dust is settled, and I get a good look at my future, I'll post up the plans for my works. I would like to thank you all for your patience in this changing time period of my life. Hopefully, everything will turn out good and I can actually make without layers of stress piled on top.

So that is my current situation regarding. It is a new path I am facing and it is looking very exciting. Keep in touch and enjoy 'Arcana Magi Pure' this month on Fictionaut.
